As someone who believes in God, one of the biggest fights I'm going to be fighting for gender equality is against die-hard Christians who think they take every single part of the bible and can live it.
Anyway, so after the recent win of Austria for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014, we have had a good start to conversation about society's view on gender. If you don't know the winner, have a look at hes website here.
On our dear Abbeh's Facebook post of the celebration there became a heated debate of God's intentions for sexuality.
I didn't read all of the comments - I must admit. But one of the ones jumped out at me, which is something that quite often gets pulled out of the bible to use to enforce gender stereotypes...
Genesis 5:2 (Good News Translation)
'Xe (God) created them male and female, blessed them, and named them "Human Beings")'
Here is what I started to write as a comment...(Contains swears)
'I'd like to point out that the bible doesn't make a statement about God making animals "male and female" implying that it is not the physical sex of someone that God intended to be so special. "Penis + Vagina" is something God made so we could multiply. God made Eve to compliment Adam on a deeper level than giving Adam someone to fuck. But God also had to make them "man" and "woman", or there would have been no further humans - and I believe God wanted them to experience the love it takes to make a child so we could learn how much God loves us.'
I wanted to ensure my comment got out there without adding to an already extensive debate. That's the joy of running this kind of website I suppose.
I'd also like to remind anybody reading this that..
Genesis 5:1[part] (Good News Translation)
'(When God created human beings, Xe made them like Xyrself.'
It does not say "God split in two and made one half of Hirself female and one half of Hirself male and they were totally different and the males were one thing and the females were another thing and there was absolutely no crossover".
